If you received an introduction

Last updated 10 October 2026

A maker or small brand used Shelf Space to find businesses that might stock their products, and wrote to you. This page explains where your work email address came from and what happens to it.

Who is responsible

The business that wrote to you decided to send the email and is responsible for it. Shelf Space is run by Sonic Studio Ltd, 37a Ventnor Villas, Hove, BN3 3DA. We decide how addresses are found and stored, found yours, and helped the sender write the introduction. You can contact either of us.

What we hold

Your name and job role if your business publishes them, your work email address, the page it was published on, and notes about your business used to judge whether its products might suit you.

Where your address came from

From your business’s own website or other pages your business has published. Shelf Space only uses work addresses that a business has made public itself. It never buys lists and cannot read anyone’s inbox.

Why it is used

To send one introduction about products that might suit your business, and at most one follow-up if there is no reply. The legal basis is legitimate interests: introducing a product to a business that sells similar things, which a business can easily say no to.

Who sees it

The sender, and the services that run Shelf Space: Cloudflare (hosting), Anthropic and OpenAI (research and writing) and Google (sending through the sender’s Gmail). Some of these are based outside the UK; our privacy policy explains how transfers are protected.

How long it is kept

Not contactedContact details for businesses that are never written to are deleted after six months.
ContactedEach email is kept for up to two years, and your contact details for up to two years after the last one, so nobody writes to you twice by mistake. Then they are deleted.
Asked not to be contactedYour address is kept on a do-not-contact list for as long as Shelf Space runs, because that is the only way to make sure you are not contacted again.

Stopping any more emails

Reply to the email and say so, and that sender will stop. To stop every Shelf Space user from contacting you, email jake@sonicstudio.uk with your address and we will add it to our shared do-not-contact list.

Your rights

You can ask to see the information held about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use, by emailing jake@sonicstudio.uk. We acknowledge requests within a few days and reply within one month. If you are not happy with our answer, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

More detail is in our privacy policy.
